Communication activities
1. The AALAB program focuses on enterprise development/scale up and Capacity Building programs to accelerate and innovate projects held by Diaspora entrepreneurs, companies, start-ups. It aims at building an entrepreneurial ecosystems for the Diaspora in Europe. This program will contribute to the development of policies in Africa and Europe. The LAB is a response to the Diaspora Operational Plan developed in December 2018 during our annual event on the side-lines of the AU-EU High level forum held in Vienna. The event was attended by 240 participants combining Diaspora entrepreneurs; civil society; African entrepreneurs; Policy and decision makers at EU, AU, Nationals and UN level. In this regard, our program provides a unique platform for different stakeholders, to connect and engage in partnership-building and joint-venture-promotion activities during B2B and B2G events. The master classes and workshops are another highlight of the conference, facilitating the effective promotion of entrepreneurial capacity building and knowledge sharing, to support young entrepreneurs from the Diaspora or in their country of origin. It also contributes to the South/South and North/South dialogue, while fostering the formation of diaspora networks and business communities based in Europe, to increase their developmental role and maximize their respective impacts
2. Aware that there is an important gap between the labour market demands and the youth qualifications. Having a degree is not anymore a guarantee of finding a job. Soft skills are also to be valued (having a serious network, knowing how to sell yourself on the labour market). Aware that As African Diaspora youth is 7 times most likely to be affected by unemployment, ADYFE has organized in Brussels, with its local partner, Shift & Twist ASBL an Annual career expo in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean. This event has brought several, public and private, partnerships including: the Employment and Economic Development Department of the municipality of Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, Banks, the International Youth Office (Bureau International de la Jeunesse), Actiris, Brussels Temp office. This Career Expo, has been named JobFair, it is a program aiming at being inclusive and having a global vision of the evolution of the labour market. One of the objective is to create a federating and job-generating event for Brussels youth, regardless of their level of qualification. Through the establishment of this program aims at providing:
- A mix of information through a specific method of training named « Easy’training » => coaching sessions and resume writing
- A series of employers who have committed to supervise young unemployed people through mentoring => giving job and trainee-ship opportunities
- A Jobfair with various exhibitors / companies promoting their vacancies. The Jobfair provides a platform for discussion, networking and exchange of information for the different stakeholders. It has given an important role to social enterprises
3. ADYFE believe that a tailored strategy to address racial and ethnic discrimination is essential to bring about change and create a more inclusive, equal and ever closer union among its citizens. It’s vital to establish channels of engagement to ensure the African Diaspora in Europe are included and can actively contribute. ADYFE using its extensive European Diaspora Grassroots Network, developed a citizens’ initiative: #DiasporaVote - in EU countries with the largest African Descent population, to raise awareness of the importance of voting in the European elections. We seek direct participation in the political dialogue that shapes our present reality and future outcomes. The objective is to reach young and non-young African Diaspora Europeans to encourage them to register to vote and to vote. We believe real progress can only be made by providing the information to them directly and fostering conversations and promoting 10 interactions with EU policy makersOther activities
