    Goals / Remit

Founded in June 2015, ASPE gathers the main producers of skincare products for animal companions in the European Union. ASPE focuses on promoting a responsible and balanced policy environment in the EU for the development and trade of animal skincare products.

ASPE engages with regulators, policy-makers and other stakeholders to encourage the enforcement of high safety and quality products, while supporting the competitiveness and efficiency of this innovative sector and of its products.

The goal of ASPE is to advocate for harmonised EU regulation concerning care products for the skin and fur on companion animals, and to comment on relevant draft EU legislation. As such, ASPE is notable committed to:

    - partner with policy makers and with civil society to discuss, inform and educate on the importance of high minimum quality and safety levels for animal skincare products.

    - support effective, efficient and dedicated EU legislation on quality and safety levels for animal skin care products, similar to the ones currently enforced for human cosmetic products.

    - raise awareness on the potential dangers involved by the lack of specific regulation on non-medicine products used for the care of companion animals, as well as to combat false or deceptive health claims on certain products.

    Core Values:

    - Responsibility: whenever possible, ASPE's members are committed for their products to higher requirement than what is set by existing national laws or a mix of several European legislations.
    - Safety: for users, animals and consumers ASPE's members want thouroughly tested products, with levels similar to those for humans.
    - Efficiency: ASPE's members support strict rules on claims regarding product efficiency.
