    Goals / Remit

    Creating an inclusive lifelong learning society: Everyone should have the opportunity to actively participate and succeed in adult learning and to fulfil their educational ambitions regardless of their past educational experience, social class, sexual orientation, civil status, gender, race, ethnicity, religion or disability. The policy and practice in the adult, further, community, and higher education systems should be continually shaped by acting on a diverse range of authentic learner voices.

    AONTAS advocates for the rights of adult learners and for bringing about positive changes in adult learning, education and training; Lifelong learning; adult skills; vocational training; and lobbies government and the EU to achieve educational equity.

    AONTAS advises the European Association for the Education of Adults (EAEA) on policy consultations and recommendations.

    AONTAS also participates in and leads Erasmus+ projects; and AONTAS is the national coordinator of the European Agenda for Adult Learning (EAAL).

    AONTAS’ European work seeks to address areas of educational disadvantage in order to build a cohesive society in Ireland and across Europe, support the implementation of EU education policy, and build the profile of the adult learning sector.

    As a national organisation, AONTAS is committed to representing the issues of our members on key fora at National, European and International level including the European Association for the Education of Adults (EAEA), the European Basic Skills Network (EBSN), and the International Council for Adult Education (ICAE).
