    Goals / Remit

    Carbon Recycling International is a private venture backed company, with headquarters in Kopavogur, Iceland which has been developing innovative methods to produce renewable transport fuels using non-biological sources of renewable energy and recycled CO2 emissions (Carbon Capture and Utilization - CCU), since 2006. CRI's first renewable methanol plant was inaugurated in Iceland in the spring of 2012.

    CRI is part of the CyclicCO2 consortium which was in 2013 granted a FP7 EU research grant for the development of cyclic carbonates.

    CRI is part of the Electra consortium which was in 2013 granted a FP7 EU research grant for development of high temperature proton ceramic electrolyser cells to produce H2 efficiently efficiently.

    CRI is a part of the MefCO2 consortium which was in 2015 granted a Horizon 2020 research grant for the development of a demonstration scale power-to-methanol plant using water electrolysis and CO2 from carbon capture for renewable methanol synthesis.

    CRI is a part of the FReSMe consortium which was in 2016 granted a Horizon 2020 research grant for the development of a demonstration scale power-to-methanol plant using steel-gas to extract H2 and CO2 for renewable methanol synthesis.
