    Goals / Remit

CIDSE is an international alliance of development agencies working together for global justice. 18 lay-led catholic development organisations from Europe & North America, inspired by shared Christian values, come together under the CIDSE umbrella to promote global justice and solidarity. Central to CIDSE’s policy formulation and advocacy is its member organisations’ work with local partner organisations in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Contributing to the fight against poverty and inequality, as well as bringing about sustainable development and well-being by challenging global structural injustices are key elements of CIDSE’s mission, which we attempt to achieve through joint advocacy, campaigning and development cooperation work. Our current priority issues are food & agriculture and land rights; climate justice & energy; sustainable consumption and production; business & human rights and gender equality.

    Main EU files targeted

The main EU policies followed by CIDSE work relate to food security, energy and climate change, business and human rights, trade and investment policies (e.g. the EU legislative process on Human Rights & Environmental Due diligence, the EU Mercosur Agreement), Agenda 2030.

Specifically, CIDSE has been targeting the following EU policies and legislative proposals:
    - Communication from the Commission / COM(2019) 640 final - The European Green Deal incl. "Fit for 55 package".
    - Joint Communication to the European Parliament and the Council / Join (2020) 4 final - Towards a comprehensive Strategy with Africa.
    - Communication from the Commission to the European Parliament, the European Council, the Council, the European Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions / COM(2020) 456 final - Europe's moment: Repair and Prepare for the Next Generation / European Commission consultation on "a renewed trade policy for a stronger Europe".
    - European Commission study on due diligence requirements through the supply chain
    - Sustainable corporate governance initiative

CIDSE’s strategic framework (2016-2021) has been extended until the end of 2022. (see here http://www.cidse.org/articles/rethinking-development/new-strategic-framework-the-cidse-network-embarks-on-a-new-adventure.html).
A mid-term review of the CIDSE strategic framework was carried out during the first half of 2019 which reconfirmed CIDSE’s overall strategy and objectives.

A s a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, CIDSE had to adapt its policy and advocacy work in 2020; physical events were cancelled and replaced by online meetings and webinars. The crisis confirmed CIDSE’s systemic approach and the interconnectedness of its thematic priorities.

A Framework Partnership Agreement was signed with the European Commission – Directorate General for International Cooperation and Development (DG-DEVCO) in November 2018. The contract officially started on 1st January 2019 and will cover a period of 54 months.

CIDSE is also a 'Global CSO" member of the European Commission Policy Forum on Development, a space for civil society related to EU development cooperation.
