Energy Efficiency Financial Institutions Group (EEFIG)
European Climate Innovation Hub.Communication activities
CS´CEO is the rapporteur for the Energy Efficiency Financial Institutions Group (www.ec.europa.eu/eefig), which is co-convened by EU Commission and UNEP FI. In this role CS led the drafting of the landmark 2015 EEFIG Report focused on identifying the barriers and policy solutions to raising energy efficiency investments in buildings, SMEs and Industry. Subsequently, in consortium, CS actively supported the design and launch of DEEP (De-risking Energy Efficiency platform - deep.eefig.eu), a toolkit for banks and the Sustainable Energy Investment Forums. In these roles CS' resources are typically covered by a consortium contract where the lead (COWI) administers a framework contract with DG Energy. In 2020, CS led the working group on correlation of loan credit risks with EE, and co-led the best practices WG that reported for COP26. In 2022, CS coleads the Data and Energy Efficiency First Principle WGs.
In 2018, CS launched a publication entitled "Funding Innovation for the EU's Competitive Climate Leadership" in an event at the EU Parliament followed by a series of bilateral presentations of this work internally at the EU Commission, with Parliamentarians and externally in innovation-focused events. This report was wholly funded by the European Climate Foundation, and contained the consensus views of around 50 experts from NGOs, think-tanks and businesses - none of which were funders.
This built on CS' experience under support to a DG Clima contract (J320301088) where it was subcontracted to provide moderation and drafting services to collect industry feedback into the design of the Innovation Fund in 2017.
As expert, CS' CEO is invited to speak at online EU hosted and Brussels based events and workshops on the areas of energy efficiency investment and climate finance. These may include, inter alia: EU Sustainable Energy Week, Innovation forums, Energy efficiency and buildings renovation finance forums and aspects of sustainable finance.
In 2019, CS worked with DG Regio under contract to support their ex-ante assessment of opportunities to deploy pillar 2 investments in Spain under the MFF 2021-27 in sustainable energy, energy efficiency, distributed energy and smart grids.
CS is funded by the European Climate Foundation to provide technical assistance and reports to improve financial and investment instruments and policies to accelerate the decarbonisation of buildings.Other activities
Climate Strategy is a mission-aligned consultancy whose mission is to work to sustainably support the delivery of the climate change goals of the Paris Agreement. In so doing it provides three main services to its clients:
1) Implementation of climate change strategies for companies: This includes - inter alia - include climate change strategies, shadow carbon prices, TCFD-related work, internal energy and bio-diversity policies, energy efficiency and energy savings contracts.
2) Technical lead, drafting, moderation, rapporteur and WG lead services to formal and informal expert groups funded by the EU Commission (via consortium and competitive tender, eg. EEFIG-related work) or sub-contracted by existing framework contract holder (eg. Innovation fund or SEIF) or funded by philanthropic donors (eg. ECF). In the past, CS has accepted to draft reports or work with associations including EURIMA, EU ASE, Breakthrough Energy Coalition and EUROACE when CS sees the output as being "mission aligned".
3) Financing of energy savings for companies, ESCOs and - indirectly - public authorities. These services are provided by a majority owned subsidiary called Energy Efficiency Capital Advisors which offers no policy-related services.- Meetings
