Goals / Remit
The objectives of the DSCC in the EU are:
• Securing protection for vulnerable deep‐sea ecosystems and ensuring sustainable deep-sea fisheries;
• Substantially reducing the greatest threats to life in the deep seas; and
• Safeguarding the long-term health, integrity, and resilience of deep-sea ecosystems.Main EU files targeted
The DSCC is working to support the implementation of Regulation (EU) 2016/2336 of the European Parliament and the Council of 14 December 2016 establishing specific conditions for fishing for deep-sea stocks in the north-east Atlantic and provisions for fishing in international waters of the north-east Atlantic. We are also calling for a moratorium on deep-sea mining in the high seas until a clear set of conditions has been met.

The DSCC consists of more than 90 organizations worldwide, including environmental NGOs, fishworkers organizations and law and policy institutes. We also work in close cooperation with major national and international players on high seas conservation. Most of our colleagues work within the parameters of their own organizations, which means that DSCC staff numbers are small.
