    Communication activities

    - Y7 / Y8 and Y20 Summits, youth counterparts of the G7 / G8 and G20 Summits

Young European Leadership is responsible for recruiting and training the delegations of the European Union to the annual Y7 and Y20 Summits. The Y7/Y8 and Y20 Summits, formerly known as the G8 & G20 Youth Summits, are international youth conferences that bring together young leaders representing the Group of Seven (G7) / Group of Eight (G8) and Group of Twenty (G20).

The Summits enable the young generation to put their concerns and solutions on the global agenda. The outcomes of the Summits are directly passed on to global policy makers to make the concerns and innovative solutions of young people heard. As a result, in 2014 a key clause on youth employment from the Y20 recommendations was adapted by the G20 Heads of State and Government in their final communiqué. The schedule of the Youth Summits parallels the one of the G7/G8 and the G20.

Since taking on the role of recruiting the EU delegation at the Summits, YEL facilitates meetings between Y20 delegates and relevant stakeholder such as the G20 Sherpa of the European Union.

    - Young European Council

The Young European Council (YEC) is an annual international conference bringing together 3 delegates from each EU Member State. The YEC seeks to generate innovative yet realistic input from the younger generation to contribute to future European policymaking.

The first YEC held in 2014 brought together over 60 delegates from all over Europe to provide actionable recommendations for European policy making around the themes of sustainability, digital and youth employment. Guests to the event included European Commissioner Connie Hedegaard and European Committee of the Regions President Michel Lebrun. The YEC 2015 will address the topics Energy Union and Climate Action, Migration and Home Affairs, and Education to Employment.

    - Diverse international delegations

Other international events include for example the European Development Days, the OECD Forum including the exclusive OECD IdeaFactory, the World Bank / IMF Annual Meetings, the Nuclear Knowledge Summit, the International Energy Forum, the International Conference of Europeanists, and the Social Good Summit.

    - Promoting debate via local and virtual events

Other initiatives include Eat & Meet, a unique opportunity to foster the exchange between future leaders, policy makers, and experts in informal dinner setting. Past editions welcomed, among others, the European Commission Director General for Environment Karl Friedrich Falkenberg and World Bank Lead Economist Theo Thomas. YEL has organized Eat&Meet events in Brussels, Berlin, and London and plans further editions throughout Europe. Going beyond borders, YEL has also organized webinars, virtual debates, and other initiatives.
