Enel Green Power is a major global operator in the field of energy generation from renewable sources, with an annual production of 22 TW/h (data to September 2011) from wind, hydroelectric, geothermal, solar, biomass and co-generation, covering the energy consumption of over 8 million families and avoiding 16 million tones of CO2 emissions every year. The net installed capacity of the company as at the end of 2011 was 7 GW, of which 3,5 GW from wind, 2,5 GW from hydro, 0,8 from geothermal, 0,1 GW from solar and 0,1 GW from biomass and co-generation. There are more than 650 operating plants worldwide, in 16 different countries. Enel Green Power is committed to contributing to sustainable development and believes that renewable sources play a pivotal role in promoting the competitiveness of the production system of several countries and to ensure energy supply security. Indeed, widespread electricity generation from renewables helps improve a country’s energy independence, while also protecting the environment. Enel Green Power aims to grow by substantially increasing its installed capacity and enhancing each country’s technology mix aimed at highlighting specific local peculiarities and building on Enel's expertise in this sector.
