    Goals / Remit

Energy Cities is a network of 1,000 local governments in 30 countries. We believe that the energy transition is about more than renewable energy or great technologies: It is about a wise use of resources while strengthening local participation and well-being in a democratic Europe.

Energy Cities wants a radical transformation of the energy systems and policies, giving citizens the power to shape a decentralised and renewable energy future. Communication activities

Energy Cities is leading the Covenant of Mayors Office for Europe, as well as for the ENPI East countries.

    Other activities

With as main goal the promotion of local sustainable policies, Energy Cities has great interests in European policies, regulations and programmes of various fields. To set up ambitious local policies aiming at reducing the overall energy consumption of a city, Mayors have to invest in various sectors (e.g. spatial planning, building, urban mobility, citizens awareness, renewable energy production, etc.).
Energy Cities is therefore interested in several fields of action and aims at facilitating integrated approach between those various sectors.
Whereas a municipality alone has little influence in the European political process, Energy Cities is able to combine the forces of all to take more appropriate action.
Energy Cities regularly publishes opinions or position papers as well as contributes to public consultations on matters related to local sustainable energy.
