Goals / Remit
epicenter.works ist die führende österreichische NGO für die Stärkung von Grund- und Freiheitsrechten im digitalen Zeitalter. Der spendenfinanzierte Verein engagiert sich gegen die Ausweitung staatlicher Überwachung, für das Grundrecht auf Datenschutz und für ein freies, offenes Internet. Schon in der Gründungszeit mobilisierte der Verein (damals noch als AKVorrat – Arbeitskreis Vorratsdaten Österreich) über 100.000 Menschen, und erreichte 2014 die Aufhebung der EU-Richtlinie zur Vorratsdatenspeicherung durch den Europäischen Gerichtshof. Seitdem ist epicenter.works ein kritischer Begleiter aller Vorhaben zur Ausweitung behördlicher Überwachungsbefugnisse. Seine Expertinnen und Experten zeigen die Auswirkungen von netzpolitischen Gesetzen auf, und erarbeiten konkrete grundrechtskonforme Lösungsansätze.
