Goals / Remit
ESOMAR is the global voice of the research, analytics and insights community, speaking on behalf of over 6000 individual professionals and 700 companies who provide or commission research, analytics and insights in more than 130 countries, all of whom agree to uphold the ICC/ESOMAR International Code.
Together with national and international research associations, we set and promote professional standards and self-regulation for our sector and elevate the value of research, analytics and insights in illuminating real issues and bringing about effective decision-making.
Founded in 1948, ESOMAR gathers both the provider and client side, as well as in public bodies and academic institutions. Our members are present in over 130 countries, and nearly half of our membership is based in European countries.

We issue industry position statements advising EU regulators and legislators which are regularly published on our website:

We also federate and make available insights and analytics findings to the general public through our Research Choices initiative which inform the public on the value of insights and analytics for the greater good.
We regularly conduct delegation visits to facilitate exchanges between European officials and sector stakeholders in order to provide inputs in EU policy-drafting and policy-making activities and to improve our regulatory compliance advice to members and the broader sector.Other activities
To promote awareness of the value of market, social and opinion research and data analytics for decision makers and to strengthen international self-regulation within the sector.
To represent the market, social and opinion research and data analytics sectors to legislators and government authorities in the EU.
To monitor legislative proposals on a national and international level that might impact market, social and opinion research and data analytics and to inform members and associations of them.
To liaise with professional associations on a global basis regarding legislative restrictions that could impact market, social and opinion research and data analytics.
