    Goals / Remit

    Euro Coop promotes to the European institutions the economic and social objectives of Europe's consumer co-operatives.

    Euro Coop informs its member organisations about European policies and initiatives which are relevant to their activities, and provides knowledge to the EU policy process relevant to the food retail, consumer affairs and enterprise policy, namely concerning the co-operative business model.

    Euro Coop provides a forum for the exchange of information and coordination of the common interests of member organisations.

    Framework Law for Sustainable Food Systems;
    EU Code of Conduct on Responsible Food Business and Marketing Practices;
    Waste Framework Directive revision;
    Legislation for plants produced by certain new genomic techniques (NGTs);
    Date marking and food waste prevention, Proposal for a revision of the Regulation on Food Information to Consumers (FIC);
    Revision of EU animal welfare legislation;
    Sustainable corporate governance;


    In parallel, we attribute priority to all other aspects pertaining to food policy (production, safety, authenticity/fraud, quality, labelling, trade), environmental sustainability (climate action, energy efficiency, science-based targets, other) consumer protection and rights, retail and enterprise policy, employment, co-operative development, rural areas and local community development.

    Other financial info

    The source of EU funding for 2021 (as well as for the current 2022) is from two H2020 projects - CO-FRESH and FOODSAFETY4EU, whereas in 2020 it was only from CO-FRESH since the other project had not started yet. The amounts are the relative share for the respective accounting years, and not the absolute amount transferred. This is because, as known, there are only 2 or 3 transfers for the duration of the whole projects, which cover 3 or 3.5 years. Hence, the amounts have to be distributed among accounting years.

    Regular position papers in relation to the policy initiatives we follow, including the public conltations we provide feedback to. Events are scarce in the COVID period, but we organise internal member info sessions based on the latest EU policy developments.

    In the near future, we'll organise events on the subject Farm to Fork Strategy and the framework law for sustainable food systems.

    Euro Coop is active in four policy fields:

    1. Food Policy;
    2. Environment and Ethical Policy, including: organic farming, climate change, Fair Trade, energy, eco-label, chemicals, GMOs, etc;
    3. Co-operative and Social Enterprises policy, including Corporate Social Responsibility, Competition, Internal Market, membership, governance, etc.
    4. Consumer Policy.
