    Goals / Remit

    EAA's policies are environmentally 'green' and rooted in the 'sustainable use of resources' tradition as understood from an angling perspective. The EAA is committed to the concepts of sustainable development and ecosystem based management, and to protect biodiversity in all its forms, genetic diversity, species diversity -incl. a healthy age-distribution within fish stocks- and ecosystem diversity.

    EAA develops position papers and gives advise on various topics within:

    • sea fisheries (CFP reform, Control Reform, Marine Strategy Directive, Marine Protected areas, Ecosystem based management, spatial planning...),

    • freshwater and terrestrial (WFD, Habitat's and Birds Directives/NATURA 2000),

    • animal welfare (fish/fisheries).

    EAA participated in a number of consultations, conferences and workshops with regard to fisheries and environmental issues.

    • EAA in Brussels monitored and informed EAA members and the public about various EU policies and legislative developments.

    • EAA informed the decison-makers about the European recreational angling community; the positive contributions from angling to society; it's development potential; the community's needs - including the need for better data on the sector.

    EAA participated in a number of advisory bodies concerning EU's fisheries and environment policy shaping e.g.:

    • Member of five Advisory Councils under the CFP (Common Fisheries Policy)

    • Observer to NASCO, North Atlantic Salmon Conservation Organisation

    • Member of the WFD-SCG, Water Framework Directive Strategic Coordination Group

    • Follows the Marine Strategy Coordination Group

    • Member of the Expert Group on River Basin Management (RBM EG) under ICPDR (International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River)

    • Member of the Co-ordination Group "Biodiversity & Nature"

    • Socio-economic importance of angling:
    EAA will continue to promote the huge economic, environmental and social contribution which recreational angling makes to all the nations of Europe.

    • EAA will continue to campaign for funding to the EAA and EFTTA 'RECFISH project', a pan-European socio-economic study on recreational angling, and to support other smaller scale recreational fishing data collection projects.

    • The EAA will continue to encourage increased participation in angling without limitation by nationality, sex, age, or ethnic origin.
