    Goals / Remit

    EAA's policies are environmentally 'green' and rooted in the 'sustainable use of resources' tradition as understood from an angling perspective. The EAA is committed to the concepts of sustainable development and ecosystem based management, and to protect biodiversity in all its forms, genetic diversity, species diversity -incl. a healthy age-distributions within fish stocks- and ecosystem diversity.

    From the EAA Statutes:

    Objectives
    The objectives of the Alliance, with particular reference to European standards, are:

    A. to promote and administer a National and International alliance to improve the aquatic environment as it affects, or may affect, the well being of fisheries and angling within EU Member States and other European States,

    B. to promote and defend fisheries and angling on the basis of ecological sustainability and sensible use of natural resources, in particular by the conservation of all species of fish and their habitat, including the promotion and definition of proper methods of maintaining and controlling stock levels;

    C. to establish and maintain a permanent liaison with, and to support angling organisations throughout Europe;

    D. to defend the interests of members and member organisations, to take joint decisions on matters of common interest and to implement those decisions;

    E. to promote all forms of angling activities, methods and equipment, which comply with acceptable conditions of capture and retention of fish prior to release (where applicable) and to promote scientific research for the purpose of achieving this objective;

    F. to promote the education of anglers and the general public as to the principles and ethics of angling, its socio-economic importance, the importance of fish and their habitat in the management of the aquatic environment; to defend angling activities of associated organisations and their affiliated members, subject to the laws applicable in each member nations.

    G. to promote research in relation to fish and their environment and to co-operate with national and international organisations with similar interests which might assist the Alliance to achieve its objectives.

    H. to promote the economic, social and environmental benefits of angling to children and young people and to encourage member nations to develop programmes to encourage their participation.

    EAA - Issues and Campaigns

    • To promote a conservation agenda with due regard to sustainable management and the encouragement of biodiversity in all activities of the organisation.

    • To campaign for sustainable management of all fish stocks within the European Union, other European states and international waters.

    • To campaign for the sustainable management of fish predators within the European Union and other European states.

    • To promote sustainable water management practices and the control of pollution in all its forms throughout the European Union and other European states.

    • To encourage biodiversity in all habitat restoration and water management schemes having regard for the use of native fish stocks and the dangers of genetic pollution.

    • To campaign for the independent regulation of fish farming in all member nations of the European Union and other European states.

    • To promote awareness of the huge economic, environmental and social impacts of recreational angling to the European Union, member Governments, the Media and all sectors of society.

    • To protect the rights and interests of all those who fish with rod and line for recreational purposes.
