    Goals / Remit

    The European Carton Makers Association is the official organisation for Folding Carton Producing Companies, National Carton Associations and Suppliers tot the folding carton industry throughout Europe. The association is constituted to serve the interest of the European folidng carton industry in general and the international co-operation within the industry in the widest sense.

    *Food Safety. ECMA has developed a Food Safety Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) in line with Article 3 of Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004.

    * ECMA is focussing on the change of the EU Tobacco Products Directive (TPD). Various ECMA members produce cigarette packaging and packaging of roll-your-own cigarettes

    A working group of several members of the association is working along with the 2 persons employed by ECMA.

    Concerning the issue of the revision of the EU Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) ECMA is assisted by Brussels based agency INTEREL. Within Interel app. 4 people are involved with ECMA and the lobby concerning the TPD. Specifically, this work is focused on promoting the importance of complex packaging as the first and best line of defence against counterfeit.

    ECMA is financed by the membership contributions of its members. The EU-lobbying costs of employed agency Interel concerning the TPD that ECMA pays are financed on top of the regular contrbution structure by the members whom it concerns. The employment of Interel is not structural and its necessity is measured on a quarterly basis.
