    Goals / Remit

    The remit of Copa is to:

    a) Represent the voice of European farmers and set the requisite political objectives to promote their interests, boost their income and defend a strong agricultural sector.

    b) Influence political decisions on agriculture by lobbying the European Union's public institutions and both European and international organisations.

    c) Promote the multifunctional role of farmers in society.

    d) Provide a platform for members to debate and exchange their views.

    e) Seek and promote solutions to important matters of mutual concern.

    f) Facilitate communication and coordination between its members and between its members' national offices in Brussels, and help them to pool their resources if necessary.

    g) Foster exchanges of opinion and debates, notably with Cogeca, but also with other representative organisations at European and international level.

    h) Provide recent and specialised information and
    analyses that both cater to the needs of its members and meet the requirements underpinning public relations.

    Communication activities

    March 2014: Copa co-partnered with Asaja Sevilla a European funded project: The new CAP: future for our farmers and future for our society. The project aimed to raise awareness of European consumers of the benefits of the CAP and farming in Spain, Belgium and Portugal, through city farm events, photo competitions, exhibitions, press events. The project reached over 5 million people and the last Eurobarometer survey 2014 showed an overall improvement in Spanish citizens knowledge of the CAP. It was co-funded by the European Commission under CAP information measures.

    May 2014: Copa co-partnered a European funded project with the University of Macerata, the Latvia Farmers Parliament, Coldiretti called Farm Inc designed to help farmers better market their produce through the development of a marketing training tool/manual. It is co-funded by the European Commission under the life-long learning programme.

    August and September 2014: Copa organised a photo competition open to the public in the International Year of Family Farms.

    September 2014: Copa held a welcome reception for MEPs highlighting the benefits and diversity of the EU cereals sector for EU rural areas and the economy “Seeds for Change” attended by over 300 people.

    October 2014: Copa held a Congress of European Farmers to launch a debate on the new CAP and to discuss how it can be improved to benefit family farmers and agri-cooperatives. A series of measures were held on this theme in the CAP Counts Campaign.

    October 2014: Copa presented the women’s innovation award.

    October 2014: Copa organised a press conference looking at the latest harvest results.

    Release of European farmers and agri-cooperatives magazine four times a year sent to the EU Institutions outlining key issues facing the sector.

    Continuous release of press releases, position papers and social media actions outlining Copa views on key issues.

    April and November 2014: Copa and Cogeca Communications Seminar designed to raise the profile of European Agriculture.
