The European Foundation Centre (EFC) is an international association of foundations and corporate funders dedicated to creating an enabling legal and fiscal environment for foundations, documenting the foundation landscape, strengthening the infrastructure of the sector, and promoting collaboration, both among foundations and between foundations and other actors, to advance the public good in Europe and beyond.
Established in 1989 by seven of Europe's leading foundations, the EFC currently has a core membership of more than 200 members and associates, spread across over 30 countries.

The EFC has established a range of Interest Groups and Forums which facilitate cooperation and exchanges of good practice among foundations across a wide range of fields of activity including: diversity, migration and integration; human rights and disability; protection of the environment; HIV/AIDS; global health challenges; social investment; Central and Eastern Europe. The EFC coordinates the European Forum on Philanthropy and Research Funding, which was launched in 2007 with the support of the European Commission and other partners.

    Other financial info

The EFC has calculated that it has spent an estimated €197,577 in 2011 on interests representation.

The figure is arrived at by calculating staff costs and related overheads for staff who work on policy issues, as well as the production of materials and meetings and/or conferences organised where an element of such meetings included trying to influence policy, and 100% of the membership fees paid by EFC to European platforms.
