Goals / Remit
The EMF is a product federation, established in 1967, in order to represent mortgage credit and the interests of mortgage lenders at the European level, and it is today recognised as the voice of the European Mortgage Industry at both the European level and beyond.
Through its work the Federation has become a key talking partner of the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Banking Advisory Committee, the European Central Bank and the European Supervisory Authorities on all questions relating to the European mortgage industry.
The Federation currently has 26 full members from 16 Member States of the European Union who, in 2011, granted over 75% of all residential and commercial mortgage loans in Europe (worth €6.5 trillion at the end of 2011). The Federation also has observer members across Europe and in the Russian Federation.
In 2004, the Federation established the European Covered Bond Council (ECBC), which represents stakeholders in the Covered Bond industry (worth €2.8 trillion at the end of 2012) at the international level. The ECBC currently has over 100 members representing covered bond issuers, analysts, investment bankers and rating agencies.
In 2012, the EMF established the Covered Bond Label Foundation (CBLF), which highlights the quality of labelled assets. As of September 2013, 84 labels have been granted to over 4000 covered bonds from 70 issuers in 14 countries for a total face value of covered bonds which amounts to over €1.4 trillion (approximately 55% of the global outstanding and 58% of the EU covered bond market).Main EU files targeted
