    EU Transparency Register

    11251212351-96 First registered on 28 Sep 2009

    Goals / Remit

    EMOTA's membership comprises 16 national e-commerce/distance selling associations in 15 European countries.

    EMOTA has as its object:

     to facilitate exchanges of information between its members; to establish for this purpose documentation regarding the issues which concern distance selling, from mail order business to online sales; to study the actions to be undertaken to promote and defend the development of distance selling in general and e-commerce in particular;

     to organise, depending on the studies above, the representation of EMOTA and its members in relation to all European and international authorities and organisations, especially as regards commercial, consumer and tax legislation that might impact distance selling; and as regards mail and all forms of transport involved in distance selling.

    Distance selling should be understood as an organised distance sale or service-provision scheme not involving the simultaneous presence of the supplier and the consumer, as defined in the European Distance Selling Directive or its subsequent modifications.
    Goods and services are offered to the consumer via the internet, printed catalogues, leaflets, television, videotext, promotions and all media forms calling for an interactive response.
