    Goals / Remit

    EMSP is the umbrella organisation representing 43 national member societies from 37 European countries.
    EMSP’s vision is “a world without MS, achieved in partnership with people living with MS, their communities across Europe, and their allies”. Our mission is to bring together the unique expertise of our members and partners to drive critical, state-of-the-art research and advance MS-relevant policies and treatments and possible cure.
    EMSP will strive for improved sustainable health and social care systems through its strategic goals: 1. To provide a robust platform for capacity building, 2. To strive for better access to treatments, therapies, and integrated care for people with MS across Europe, 3. To promote evidence-based good practice and effective health and social care, using digitalization and health data, 4. To strive for equity and social inclusion and social protection; and, 5. To support more and better investment of people and resources for MS research.

    Main EU files targeted

    EMSP’s policy work is shaped by its over-arching goal of involvement of people with MS in all areas of EU policy, programmes and projects with an impact on health and disability. The European social and health policy landscape is becoming increasingly focused on broad themes and alliances, rather than on single conditions.
    EMSP will work closely to provide expert policy support and use MS as an exemplar of long-term, disabling, neurological conditions.
    EMSP activities align closely with the priorities set out in the EU Health Programme, as it seeks to increase awareness of early diagnosis, sharing evidence-based good practice, establishing an increase in medical expertise and pooling patient data for better healthcare outcomes. It focuses on the specific objectives of promoting health, contributing to more innovative and efficient health systems and facilitating better and safer healthcare for patients.
    The MS Barometer 2020 highlights the five priority areas in the Health and Social care systems of concerns for people with MS across Europe:
    1. Health care service delivery ;
    2. Health information ;
    3. Access to treatments and therapies;
    4. Governance, leadership and health financing ;
    5. Participation in society.
    Other EU health initiatives:
    - Horizon Europe which has a significant impact on the health research and the Innovative Health Initiative
    - The European Commission's pharmaceutical strategy
    - The European Health Data Space
    - The EU Disability Strategy and subsequent policy development
    - Action Plan on the European Pillar of Social Rights, Semester Process
    - EP work on homelessness
    - EU Gender Equality Strategy
    - EU recovery and resilience facility
    All our actions come as a consequence of our close consultations with our members and our activities are designed to improve the quality of life of people with MS in Europe. Recognising the value of our actions will make EMSP one of the key players in the field.

    EMSP will ensure that health systems across Europe provide the most innovative, efficient and sustainable care to all patients by identifying best practices across Europe and providing a platform to exchange experiences and ideas through EMSP’s convening events such as the annual conference.

    One Million Mind Campaign and #justimagine campaign- The purpose of EMSP campaigns is to ensure supporters of the organization are motivated to continue to engage with EMSP, to garner further supporters to the voice of people affected by MS and to prompt engagement from potential allies across all sectors of society.

    In order to achieve, its mission of improving the quality of life of people affected by MS, EMSP will adopt a multi-stakeholder approach to engage the MS community and broaden the reach to the general public. For this purpose, EMSP will develop a European engagement Campaign - vital in a very crowded EU Community. It is a way for EMSP to translate our activities into messaging; that will help reaching new supporters and challenge EMSP to refine its efforts to those that make maximum impact.

    EMSP will work its campaign around the key international awareness days such that Brain Awareness week, the World MS Day, the International Disability day, Patients' rights day, etc. to enhance its messages and engage with the EU decision makers.

    EMSP will also contribute as relevant to the different consultations that will be held by the European Commission or the European Medicines Agency to support improving decisions that affect the health and social care of people affected by MS. EMSP as a member of the European Patients' Forum contribute to consultations through their work.

    EMSP also organised webinar directed to policy decision makers in collaboration with MEPs on specific thematic areas identified through the MS Barometer.
