    Goals / Remit

    The EPS works to promote the interests of physics in Europe. Its activities revolve around the themes of promoting excellent physics research, supplying a European view on important questions relating to physics and acting as a liaison between physicists working in different fields and as a catalyst bringing together physicists of different countries.

    The EPS is a not-for-profit organisation. It represents over 100 000 members and physicists through its 42 national member societies. It also provides a forum for more than 3500 individual members from all over Europe. Academic research societies and large European research centres and institutions Associate Members. EPS headquater is located on the Mulhouse university campus.

    Different fields of physiscs are represented by the Divisions and Groups of the EPS.

    The main themes forming the EPS strategy include: European integration; Physics Education; Promoting scientific excellence; Science and society and communication; and Scientific publishing.

    Activities include: organising conferences; providing grants and fellowships; awarding prizes; representing the physics community in science policy issues; publication; outreach and communication.

    The EPS also represents the European Physics Community in meetings with other European learned societies, as well as with other similar organisations internationally.
