    Goals / Remit

We are a non-governmental institution which promotes raising of political culture in the Czech Republic as well as on the European level and strengthening of functional liberal democracy.

We provide decision-makers with expert recommendations and watch and evaluate their work systematically. We consider active citizens, accountable politicians and a cohesive society sharing values of freedom and democracy to be the basic elements of high political culture.

Since 2005, as a non-governmental and a non-profitable organisation which is not linked to any political party, we have been pursuing research and educational activities. Besides publishing analytical papers and commentaries for media, we organise conferences, seminars and trainings for both experts and public. Our events provide a platform for dialogue amongst politicians, professionals, journalists, business people and students.

We are the only organisation in the Czech Republic which monitors meetings of the Czech Parliament’s EU committees as well as the participation rate of Czech ministers at the meetings of the Council of the European Union. Before each meeting of the European Council we prepare questions which Members of Parliament then pose to the Prime Minister. We like to present our recommendations publicly, since
January 2014 we have been quoted in the Czech media more than five hundred times.

Politicians turn to us for help. In 2014 we consulted politicians of all democratic political parties seated in the Czech Parliament. In the framework of the National convent, we prepared complex recommendations as to the future direction of the Czech immigration strategy, which is still being used by the Interior Ministry.

European Values Initiative is a citizens´initiative supporting the principles of liberal democracy in Central Europe. Tens of debates at high schools and universities are organised annually.

    Main EU files targeted

We are the only institution in the Czech Republic which monitors sessions of the committees for European affairs of both parliamentary chambers and presence of Czech ministers at the meetings in the Council of the EU.
