    Established in 1956 as a Portuguese foundation for the whole of humanity, the Foundation’s original purpose focused on fostering knowledge and raising the quality of life of persons throughout the fields of the arts, charity, science and education. Bequeathed by the last will and testament of Calouste Sarkis Gulbenkian, the Foundation is of perpetual duration and undertakes its activities structured around its headquarters in Lisbon (Portugal) and its delegations in Paris (France) and London (the United Kingdom).

    Communication activities

    The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation hosts several initiatives related with European Policies, such as Seminars, Foruns and meetings.
    New Pact for Europe, a project whose aim is to help identify the tools needed to enable the European Union to meet the internal and external challenges it faces. The final work will bring together recommendations on how to change the way in which the European Union and its policies are designed to help prevent future crises. Responsibility for its implementation is shared by ten National Reflection Groups (Belgium, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Poland, Portugal and Slovakia), each composed of 20 senior political representatives, opinion leaders, representatives of Non-Governmental Organizations and other key stakeholders. There are a few other initiatives.
