    FIA is the leading global trade organization for the futures, options & centrally cleared derivatives markets, with offices in Brussels, London, Singapore and Washington, D.C. FIA’s membership includes clearing firms, exchanges, clearinghouses, trading firms and commodities specialists from more than 48 countries as well as technology vendors, lawyers & other professionals serving the industry. As the principal members of derivatives clearinghouses worldwide, FIA's member firms play a critical role in the reduction of systemic risk in global financial markets.

    Main EU files targeted

    EMIR:(1) European regulation on OTC derivatives, central counterparties (CCPs) and trade repositories (TRs) – European Markets Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR) and EMIR 2.2 with regards to the authorisation and supervision of third-country CPPs. (2) Capital Requirements. (3) CCP Recovery & Resolution: The final Regulation established a legislative framework for the recovery and resolution of CCPs operating in the EU. The aim of the framework is to reduce the risk of a CCP failing and to establish procedures for the resolution of a CCP that has failed to limit impact on the financial system and on public funds.(4) MiFID/R and further developments; (5)Fintech and Cybersecurity: FIA has made cybersecurity a priority as the financial services sector and the critical infrastructures are dependent on safe and efficient systems; (6) Benchmark Regulation and further developments; and reporting initiatives, and (7) impact on FIA members following the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union.     1) Travel and accommodation:
    We calculated the average travel costs of the 7 individuals travelling regarding the specific activities covered by the register to be a total of €6,766.91. This total includes the price of travel and accommodation to enable staff to meet with the European Commission or attend European Parliament workshops throughout 2020.

    Final calculations are in Euro and based on the 2020 year-end exchange rate to convert $8,300 USD to Euro – as of December 31st, 2020 at £1.00: €.81529 (this statistic was taken from (www.oanda.com).

    2) Rent/office cost, etc:
    The rent amount for our European offices, based in London (UK), Amsterdam (NL), and Brussels (BG) are as follows:
    London office: £97,106.10
    Amsterdam office: €37,229.43
    Brussels office: €17,721.78
    An expense of £5,802.14 for office supplies has been registered as well.
    The amount total is €157,859.45.
    Final calculations are in Euro based on the 2020 year-end exchange rate. This was used to convert a portion of the total from £120,720.65 GBP to €134,335.52. Year-end exchange rate at £1.00: €1.11278 (this statistic was taken from (www.oanda.com).

    3) Average Salary:
    The total salary for those seven staff members (taking the respective percentages of hours involved) involved in advocacy work with the European Commission is €236,246.53. This amount was converted from £212,303.00 GBP into Euro using the year-end exchange rate for 2020. Year-end exchange rate at £1.00: €1.11278 (this statistic was taken from (www.oanda.com).

    4) Consultancy costs (Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer):
    The cost for 2020 services amounted to $229,200.00 - an estimate is that 10% of the services provided to the EU Transparency register activity. This amounted to $22,920.00. Further converted into Euro year-end exchange rate for 2020, totalling €18,686.45 using the conversion rate of $1.00: €.81529 Euro (this statistic was taken from (www.oanda.com).

    QED membership:
    FIA are also members of QED which in 2020 cost us a total of €6,500.00. QED provides us with an opportunity to liaise and network with senior European Commission and European Parliament representatives at events, forums and workshops.
