As a politically independent environmental association we are active in Ghent (BE) and the surrounding area. GMF strives for a sustainable society that takes into account current generations, without standing in the way of future generations. GMF's expertise is mainly situated in environmental themes and urban mobility.

GMF is primarily aimed at local authorities, residents and businesses in the Ghent region. We do this by spreading information, raising awareness , research, critical analysis, advice, lobbying, procedures and hands-on public actions.

Where relevant, we strive for cooperation with other associations, organisations en enterprises. GMF also wishes to act as a local ambassador of (inter)national campaigns.

Being a local, rather small organization, we rely for the better part of our actions on members and volunteers. GMF therefore wants to encourage and help people to volunteer, come up with new ideas and take initiatives and realize them within our association.

Green Deal, repair & share acitivities, climate adaptation projects, sustainable transition, urban mobility, safety for strappers, biodiversity, groundwater management, local agriculture and many more.

GMF has no strategy yet on how to influence the EU policy and decision-making. At the moment our organisation is mainly focused on the local and regional decision-making. But we aim to step up our game scope by seeking partnerships across Europe with similar organisations. Together we can look into our role to play at the EU level. In 2021 we would start to put more focus on activities, policies and emissions in the port of Ghent, which will bring us closer to international and European levels of legislation and decision making.

GMF counts only 4 policy officers, but our team of co-workers (including MilieuAdviesWinkel) is much bigger, counting almost 10 people.
