    Goals / Remit

The Health Effects Institute is an independent, nonprofit organization established in 1980 to be an authoritative and impartial source of high-quality science regarding the effects of air pollution on human health. Through over 350 research projects in the U.S., Europe, Asia and elsewhere, HEI has advanced scientific knowledge on a range of air pollution issues relevant to regulatory and other actions to improve air quality.

    Main EU files targeted

HEI does not conduct issue advocacy or adopt policy positions. Its mission is to generate scientific information on the health risks associated with air pollutants, which it shares with policymakers working on air quality issues. Its most recent engagement in Europe has been with the European Commission's review of air policy and the Air Quality Limit Values.
