    Goals / Remit

As a leading microfinance institution in Belgium, microStart provides advice and grants microcredits to (future) entrepreneurs who do not have access to financing from the traditional banking sector.

Created in 2011, microStart is an initiative of Adie, a pioneer in European microfinance, BNP Paribas Fortis and the European Investment Fund.

Today, microStart is one of the most dynamic and innovative European players in the field of professional microcredit. MicroStart's practices comply with the European Code of Conduct promoted by the European Commission for Microfinance Institutions in the EU.

    Main EU files targeted

    - Employment and Social Innovation Programme (EaSI) and the e European Progress Microfinance Facility (EPMF)
    - Microfinance institutions are in a key position to help mitigate the effects of human capital flight that manifests between East and West Europe. We want to propose public-private partnership initiatives that would combine the social mission of microfinance with the solidarity mechanisms within Europe, to renew investment in local entrepreneurship and innovation.
    - Demonstrate the many ways in which microfinance actors support the objective of financial and economic inclusion for entrepreneurs with migrant backgrounds. It explores a number of activities that microfinance institutions (MFIs) have put in place, and a number of successful public-private partnerships that also address this goal.
    - Social Return on Investment (SROI) is measurable proof that microfinance activities have a positive impact on the budget of public governments, by facilitating reduction strain on welfare systems and by raising direct taxes and social security income. At the same time, SROI assesses the impact of microfinance on financial and social inclusion, contributing to the achievement of the ESF policy objectives.
