Goals / Remit
The Mirpuri Foundation, incorporated by the Mirpuri family as a non-profit organization, was established by Paulo Mirpuri with the aim of contributing to a better world. Based on a commitment to make the world a better place for future generations, the Foundation allocates its resources and intelligence where they are most needed, focusing on 6 distinct areas: marine conservation, wildlife conservation, performing arts, social responsibility, medical education and research, and aeronautical education and research.
By fostering a spirit of collaboration between global authorities, companies, communities and individuals, the non-profit organizations aims to positively impact the most pressing issues threatening our planet.
On Marine Conservation, the Foundation promotes the management of ocean resources and its sustainability. It carries out initiatives to avoid the destruction of habitats, the depletion of species, pollution and other threats faced by oceans that often go unnoticed because underwater the scarring is not as evident and visible as the one we see on land.
Wildlife Conservation needs to be a global joined effort to succeed and the Mirpuri Foundation is contributing to such efforts on a regional basis. Each year the planet lose natural wildlife habitat areas, this being the primary threat to the survival of several species. The Foundation has identified some major dangers to wildlife, such as global warming, illegal hunting, pollution and deforestation and supports projects that tackle these issues.
Within the scope of the Performing Arts, Mirpuri Foundation is committed to supporting cultural endeavours for development and education through the Arts and the preservation of cultural heritage. Thus, it puts into practice initiatives that stimulate and encourage artistic production, providing the support often lacking from the Government.
The Mirpuri Foundation supports projects and initiatives that benefit society and promotes Social Responsibility by encouraging companies and businesses to act positively through philanthropy, ethical labour practices, volunteering and efforts to support environmental sustainability. The Foundation focuses on supporting children and young people, old people and migrants in order to help them develop to their full present or future potential.
The field of medicine has made great progress in the last 200 years, in 50 of which new technologies have played a key role in increasing life expectancy significantly in modern societies. However, we are now facing new disorders and the appearance of diseases that did not exist or were considered rare, many of them as a consequence of careless living habits and there are still vast parts of the world without the most basic health care system available. The Mirpuri Foundation believes in innovation and technology as the driving forces in medicine and focuses on research and education in order to open the path for development and enable a better living.
On Aeronautical Research and Education, the Mirpuri Foundation fully supports the training of young people in several sectors of the Air Transportation Industry as well as aeronautical and aerospace research that can contribute to improving safety and progress. Furthermore it invests efforts into helping the industry become more sustainable through initiatives that lower itsr negative impact on the environment.Main EU files targeted

Communication activities
Within the scope of marine conservation, the Mirpuri Foundation raises the world’s awareness to the importance of ocean protection. It was the principal sustainability partner of the Volvo Ocean Race and, together with the United Nations, the founding partner of the team "Turn the Tide on Plastic", sailing the world to amplify this same message. In parallel, the Foundation painted Hi Fly’s Airbus A330 to spread the call across the skies. A campaign to Save the Coral Reefs has been as well put into place and launched through the painting of the world's largest commercial aircraft, the Airbus A-380. As future generations hold the power to change to world, the Mirpuri Foundation Sailing Academy raises its athletes to be part of the solution to the problems that oceans face. The Foundation has also installed the country’s first Seabin; the equipment will continuously clean the waters and collect data to build an up-to-date picture of ocean health. Moreover, the organization participates and promotes events that call public attention to the issues of marine conservation. Internally, it conducts initiatives such as beach cleanups.
On Wildlife Conservation, the Mirpuri Foundation supports the "Through the Eyes of the Leopard", a series of expeditions to the Caucasus, the habitat of the Persian-Leopard where a recovery program is under way. The collected images will come to life in a photography book and an immersive exhibition to sensitize the population on the need for conservation efforts. The project further studies the areas that meet the conditions to reintroduce the animal in its habitat and guarantee the sustainable growth of the species. The Mirpuri Foundation has also led several other expeditions to assess the consequences of climate change on localities and wildlife.
Committed to the arts, the Mirpuri Foundation puts in place projects that contribute to the preservation and strengthening of cultural heritage. The Dance, Music and Theater Awards aimed to stimulate the quality of artistic production in the country and its winners were granted a prize of 30.000€ each. The event took place at the São Carlos National Theatre, which is managed by Opart, and with whom the Foundation recently pledged to implement joint actions for the development of the performing arts. Moreover, as patron of the National Museum of Theater and Dance, the Foundation donated two original paintings and restored valuable theatrical machinery.
Concerning Social Responsibility, the Mirpuri Foundation is supporting the groundbreaking study of the British Institute of International Comparative Law on responsibilities and implications for private vessels providing maritime rescue to refugees as various legal issues arise. It has also partnered with Hi Fly to provide the first flight experience to a group supported by solidarity institutions.
Believing in medicine as a key to improve lives, the Mirpuri Foundation supports research on health issues. As a set of new diseases arise from irresponsible consumption of plastic, the Foundation is present in several conferences to raise awareness on the negative effects of such on the human body.
The Mirpuri Foundation works to help the aviation industry become more sustainable, reduce and offset its carbon emissions and, as Hi Fly’s sustainability partner, the Foundation is supporting the company in becoming plastic free by the end of 2019. The first single-use plastic free flight in the world took place on December 26th 2018, with the help of the Foundation. These first four trial flights avoided the use of 350 kg of plastic. Also, already projected and under construction, the Mirpuri Foundation Innovation Center will offer training of excellency to people in the sectors of the Air Transportation Industry through visionary and innovative technology.Other activities
