    Oceana, founded in 2001, is the largest international organization focused on ocean conservation. Oceana campaigns to protect and restore the world’s oceans. Our teams of marine scientists, economists, lawyers and advocates win specific and concrete policy changes to reduce pollution and to prevent the irreversible collapse of fish populations, marine mammals and other sea life. Global in scope and dedicated to conservation, Oceana has campaigners based in North America (Washington, DC; Juneau, AK), Europe (Madrid, Spain; Copenhagen, Denmark; Brussels, Belgium; London, United Kingdom), Central America (Mexico, Belize), South America (Brazilia, Brasil and Santiago, Chile) and Asia (Phillipines).

    Other activities

    Oceana is an international organisation focusing on Oceans conservation and protection. The main general fields of campaigning activities include, marine pollution, prevention of harmful fisheries in EU and non-EU waters, climate change and acidification, protection of marine vulnerable species, ocean research development, the establishment of marine protected areas, the development of renewable energy from the sea.
    Oceana in Europe is involved as stakeholder in several EU wide processes such as the Common Fisheries Policy Reform, the implementation of the EU Habitats and Species Directive as well as the implementation of the European Marine Strategy Directive.

    Oceana offices in Europe monitor the development of the EU legislation and policies in the above mentioned fields as well as interact with the European Commission services and the European Parliament with a view to promoting EU policies and legislation aimed at setting high level of marine habitats and biodiversity protection as well as ensuring effective implementation of existing legislation. Oceana is an active stakeholder in EU oriented decision making processes promoted by the European Commission and the European Parliament
