    Goals / Remit

REDISA manages a national waste tyre management plan covering the whole of South Africa. It operates as a non-profit company, with funding derived from the tyre industry: all tyre manufacturers and importers introducing tyres into the South African Market pay a waste management fee based on their net production, in kg, of tyres. REDISA applies the funds received to build and operate a nationwide reverse logistics network, collecting, storing and then re-distributing the waste tyres to recylers.

REDISA's mandate is tied to multiple bottom lines: tyre diversion from landfill, tyre recycling, job creation, new business creation, R&D, and education and training. Its overall objective is to build a viable tyre recycling industry in South Africa, in pursuit of which it also works on generating demand for recycled rubber through fostering secondary industries.
