    Goals / Remit

The mission and ultimate goal of the Roma Education Fund (REF) is to close the gap in educational outcomes between Roma and non-Roma. In order to achieve this goal, REF supports policies and programs which ensure quality education for Roma, including the desegregation of education systems in the countries that were participating in the Decade of Roma Inclusion, and in other interested countries. Preparation of this action is based on long-term implementation of actions aimed at supporting Roma children and youth at all educational levels, with the aim to introduce an integrated approach in the countries where REF already implements activities and to expand the activities to new areas/countries with a significant number of Roma population.

Since 2005, the Roma Education Fund (REF) network has gained extensive experience and knowledge about the types of interventions and approaches to Roma education that produce results on the ground in 16 countries in Europe.

    Main EU files targeted

REF has not targeted any policy domain in relation to the EU insofar. REF is interested in all the policy measures that aim to contribute to improved social cohesion through increased education attainment and improved employability potential of marginalized Roma populations across regions in Europe, as well to foster cross-country and regional dialogue and knowledge transfer. The organization is interested in contributing to the consultation processes and other initiatives evolving around the European Child Guarantee. Also, the organization seeks to take part in the consultative framework around EU Roma Strategic Framework for equality, inclusion and participation.
