    Goals / Remit

Smurfit Kappa strives to be a customer-oriented, market-led company where the satisfaction of customers, the personal development of employees and respect for the environment are seen as being inseparable from the aim of creating value for the shareholders.

Smurfit Kappa is a world leader in paper-based packaging. The Group operates in 23 countries in Europe and is the European leader in containerboard, solidboard, corrugated and solidboard packaging and has a key position in several other paper packaging market segments. The Group also operates in 12 countries in the Americas. Smurfit Kappa is active in the USA, Canada and 10 countries of Latin America.

    Main EU files targeted

SKG closely follows developments regarding the policy framework for climate and energy, the circular economy and waste and waste recovery. We have a keen interest in ETS IV, fossil CO2 emission reduction targets, legislation regarding the use of renewable energy, the Green Deal legislation, Packaging Waste directive, Single-use plastic legislation, Producer responsibility directive, etc.
We believe that European climate change policies should not be tightened in the absence of international agreements. We therefore recommend that the EU gives greater priority to improving the overall competitive situation of industry in Europe towards which lowering energy prices forms an important step. In general we favour policies that promote the circular economy concept and stimulate the recovery of waste paper. Waste paper or recovered paper as it is called in our industry is the basis raw material for our base product which is paper produced on the basis of recovered papers (fibres).
