    Main EU files targeted

Smurfit Westrock closely follows developments regarding the policy framework for climate and energy, the circular economy and waste and waste recovery. We have a keen interest in ETS, fossil CO2 emission reduction targets, legislation regarding the use of renewable energy, the Green Deal legislation, Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, Single-use plastic legislation, Producer responsibility schemes, etc.
We believe that European climate change policies should not be tightened in the absence of international agreements. We therefore recommend that the EU gives greater priority to improving the overall competitive situation of industry in Europe towards which lowering energy prices forms an important step. In general, we favour policies that promote the circular economy concept and stimulate the recovery of wastepaper. Wastepaper or recovered paper as it is called in our industry is the basis raw material for our base product which is paper produced on the basis of recovered papers (fibres).

The list below only covers meetings held since November 2014 with commissioners, their cabinet members or directors-general at the European Commission; other lobby meetings with lower-level staff may have taken place, but the European Commission doesn't proactively publish information about these meetings. For more information about which commissioner is responsible for which portfolio, check out this link: https://commissioners.ec.europa.eu/index_en All information below comes from European Commission web pages.

1 July 2024: We have noted that some meetings are appearing in duplicate, ie. some meetings seem to be listed twice. This seems to be because the Commission changes some element of a meeting data after the meeting has first been listed, which causes LobbyFacts to register it as a new meeting. We are investigating further.
