    Goals / Remit

Tesla was founded over ten years ago with the mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable transportation by producing fully electric cars that could be used as any other, not only for urban but also for long distances.

This resulted in the first and currently unique all-electric family sedan (the “Model S”) reaching up to 530 km on a single charge. Since its launch in 2012, more than 80.000 Model S have been sold worldwide, a large part in the EU. Tesla’s next vehicle (“Model X”) is a full electric SUV and is expected towards the end of this year. A more affordable mass market electric car (“Model 3”) is planned to reach stores around the end of 2017.

Tesla’s Supercharger Network is the necessary part that completes a no-compromise electric vehicle experience by allowing sufficiently fast recharge for convenient all-electric long distance travel. Our Customers recharge 80% of their car’s battery in 20-30 minutes, giving about 2.5-3 hours of all-electric highway driving time. In 2 years, the Supercharger network has grown to above 2,700 Superchargers at more than 495 locations worldwide and now connects popular routes in North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific. In Europe, in July 2015 alone, Tesla delivered more than 3 GWh of green electricity via the Supercharger network, enabling 15 million full electric kilometers across the continent. Annualized, this represents almost 20 million liters of petrol or 62,000 tons of CO2 savings.

The unique combination of Tesla’s large batteries and Supercharger technology is the essence of what makes a permanent switch to all-electric driving acceptable for customers as it provides (1) acceptable driving time between refueling (2) zero range anxiety while (3) offering a refueling time and procedure that is better than or on par with refueling a diesel or gasoline vehicle.

In May 2015, Tesla announced the launch of its stationary batteries applications for homes (“Powerwall”) and businesses/utilities (“Powerpack”). With Tesla Energy, Tesla is amplifying its efforts to accelerate the move away from fossil fuels to a sustainable energy future with Tesla batteries, enabling homes, business, and utilities to store sustainable and renewable energy to manage power demand, provide backup power and increase grid resilience. Tesla is already working with utilities and other renewable power partners around the world to deploy storage on the grid to improve resiliency and cleanliness of the grid as a whole.

Tesla’s productions capacities are currently located in Fremont, California. The company is expanding its manufacturing footprint into other areas, including in Tilburg, the Netherlands, where it has an assembly facility. Tesla and key strategic partners including Panasonic have begun construction of a Gigafactory to facilitate production of mass-market affordable battery packs for both vehicle applications and use in stationary storage.

Tesla is headquartered in Palo Alto, California, USA, and currently employs more than 10.000 people worldwide. Tesla´s European Headquarter is located in Amsterdam, Netherlands, with around 1.250 employees across Europe. In Q2 2015 Global Revenue amounted $955 million.
