    Goals / Remit

    EAHP is an association of 35 national hospital pharmacy associations. Its mission is to represent and develop the hospital pharmacy profession within Europe to ensure the continuous improvement of care and outcomes for patients in the hospital setting. This is achieved through science, research, education, practice, as well as sharing best-practice and responsibility with other healthcare professionals

    In the interest of patients and public health, EAHP seeks to
    - to promote and further develop hospital pharmacy and to obtain and maintain general joint pharmaceutical principles and a joint pharmaceutical policy;
    - to foster research and education activities;
    - to promote co-operation with other organisations in the domain of public health;
    - to promote the position and function of hospital pharmacists;
    - to support and uphold the interests of hospital pharmacists

    Main EU files targeted

    The main EU initiatives, policies and legislative files currently followed by EAHP include developments in:
    - professional qualification recognition (e.g. the emergence of the common training framework tool, the European Professional Card, and developments associated with the Professional Qualifications Directive)
    - access to medicines, including medicines shortages
    - clinical trial regulation
    - medical device regulation
    - EU initiatives in the area of health systems
    - tackling antimicrobial resistance, including the better use of antibiotics and an improved research environment for new antibiotics
    - digital health
    - patient safety

    Communication activities

    Key projects being undertaken by the European Association of Hospital Pharmacists include:

    - a project to form a common training framework for hospital pharmacy
    - efforts to assist all European countries in meeting the aspirations set out in the 44 European Statements of Hospital Pharmacy, including the conduct of practice surveys
    - research and awareness-raising activity to elucidate the problems experienced across Europe relating to medicines shortages, and the advancement of consensus solutions
    - advocacy to the pharmaceutical industry to help achieve systematic barcoding of medicines to the single unit in order to facilitate bedside scanning in hospitals to reduce medication errors
    - promotion of the role of the hospital pharmacist in leading efforts to combat antimicrobial resistance, especially in respect to achieving prudent use

    EAHP conducts a number of events throughout the year, including the live provision of education via its international annual congress, its Synergy Masterclasses and the Academy Seminar Programme. In addition, the Association offers access to open learning courses.

    Regular publications of the EAHP include the European Journal of Hospital Pharmacy (EJHP) and the EAHP EU Monitor (an email newsletter which can be subscribed to at www.eahp.eu).
