    Goals / Remit

    ILGA-Europe’s vision is societies in which all people – with their sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sex characteristics – are enabled to live a fulfilling life as who they are, in safety, and empowered to make choices at all stages of their lives; societies which are just and fair, where the diversity of people is celebrated and where everyone is free to fully participate.

    ILGA-Europe’s mission is:
    1) To act as a regional voice in Europe and Central Asia for the rights of those who face discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sex characteristics, including those who are at particular risk due to intersecting factors, such as gender, race, ethnicity, religion/faith, socio-economic status, ability, HIV-status and age (among others).

    Main EU files targeted

    ILGA-Europe is working on EU legislative proposals, actions and awareness raising around LGBTI rights, i.e. for example the horizontal anti-discrimination directive, work on an EU internal human rights mechanism, EU LGBTI strategy, employment and social inclusion, gender equality initiatives, hate crime and hate speech, freedom of movement, asylum, policy initiatives regarding non-discrimination in the area of health and education, as well as LGBTI rights in the accession and neighbourhood policies.

    The first strategic objective of ILGA-Europe is:

    To achieve full equality and effective enjoyment of human rights without discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sex (intersex), with particular attention to the following issues:
    - Asylum;
    - Bias-motivated violence and hate speech;
    - Education;
    - Employment;
    - Family;
    - Freedom of assembly, association and expression;
    - Health;
    - Legal gender recognition.

    As a result all of our activities and work that fall under the scope of the Transparency Register is conducted to advance such human rights and equality to LGBTI people.
