HEART FAILURE POLICY NETWORK (HFPN)
HPP acts as Secretariat for the HF Policy Network, a multidisciplinary group of experts from across Europe working with patients, health professionals and other stakeholders to lead significant policy changes that may improve the lives of people with heart failure (HF). The HFPN has ongoing relationships with several MEPs who donate their time for free to support (and act as Members of) the HFPN. HFPN held its Heart Failure Policy Summit, a virtual online event, in October-November 2022. The 2022 Summit provided a much-needed forum for collaboration and discussion between patient advocates from different sectors. The Summit aimed to elevate the efforts of national-level heart failure advocates to engage decision-makers and policymakers across Europe. Several MEPs addressed the event. The Taoiseach Michéal Martin provided a pre-recorded presentation.
THE LUNG CANCER POLICY NETWORK (LCPN)
HPP acts as Secretariat for the LCPN which was launched in 2021 as an initiative of the Lung Ambition Alliance. It is a global network of multidisciplinary experts from across the lung cancer community, which includes clinicians, researchers, patient organisations and industry partners. The Network aims to improve lung cancer survival worldwide. LCPN works by engaging policymakers – sharing research, reports and recommendations that highlight opportunities to diagnose and treat lung cancer earlier. LCPN hopes to make lung cancer an international policy priority, and by doing so, improve the quality of life for people diagnosed with lung cancer and to reduce the number of deaths caused by the condition. The LCPN submitted proposed amendments to the EU Commission draft recommendation on cancer screening. It also submitted a response to the EU call for evidence on cancer screening. In addition, the LCPN organised two virtual events, inviting interested MEPs.
THOUGHT LEADERSHIP FORUM ON CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE
HPP initiated the Thought Leadership Forum on Cardiovascular Disease in 2022. The project is advised by a multidisciplinary group of senior stakeholders seeking to ignite greater political urgency in CVD. It was established to stimulate new strategic debates in CVD to ultimately accelerate policy leadership and health system transformation in the societal interest. The Forum organised a webinar in November 2022, on ‘a new future for cardiovascular health: how do we unite decision-makers behind the next generation of national CVD plans?’. Inviting MEPs interested in the topic.
WILSON'S DISEASE POLICY NETWORK
HPP runs the Secretariat for the Wilson’s Disease Policy Network, in collaboration with its multi-stakeholder Steering Committee. All outputs are non-promotional, evidence based and shaped by the Steering Committee, which has editorial control. In 2023, HPP is planning to hold an event at the European Parliament, with patient advocates, physicians and policy experts in the field of rare diseases to discuss what more can be done at an EU level to drive change. Preparations for this event, including contacting interested MEPs, began in late 2022.Other activities
