    Goals / Remit

The LEGO Group is a Danish family owned company with production in Europe. As a company whose mission is to ‘inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow’, children are our role models. We want to leave children a better planet than the one we inherited. In 2003, the LEGO Group became the first toy company to join the United Nations Global Compact. We remain committed to upholding its 10 principles and promote a cleaner, safer, inclusive and more sustainable planet as well as promoting learning through play. Our operations seek to have a positive impact on children, the environment and people – both directly and indirectly. We are balancing our carbon emissions through investments in renewable energy and are transitioning towards more sustainable packaging (2025) and products (2030). Social impacts include ensuring children’s safety in both physical and digital play, promoting labor and human rights in the supply chain, and securing the health and safety of employees.

    Communication activities

-Contribution to Safer Internet Day (February). On Safer Internet Day 2021, we joined forces with DQ Institute a word-leading digital citizenship and online child safety think-tank, to help empower children to become responsible digital citizens and give them the tools they need to stay safe and positive online. We launched a series of interactive, fun experiences that help children develop digital empathy skills. The latest interactive experience was launched in October 2021 on the occasion of the Safer Internet Forum.

-Contribution to the EU Digital Assembly (June). On 1 and 2 June 2021, the European Commission and the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union hosted the Digital Assembly, which was dedicated to Europe's Digital Decade. This high-level event focused on the EU targets for 2030 for the Digital Decade and on the Digital Europe Programme. The LEGO Group was invited to speak about "Digital principles - Defining the European Way".

-Contribution to the Safer Internet Forum (October). See above under Safer Internet Day.

-Contribution to the Wise Persons Group on customs (December). The primary role of the Group is to reflect on the development of innovative ideas and concepts and deliver a report that contributes to a general inter-institutional debate on the future of the Customs Union. The information gathered are provided to Member States and the Commission with specific focus on e-commerce and risk management in the customs union given the urgent need for solutions in these two areas. The Group in this context also organizes hearings with public and private sector experts. The LEGO Group was invited to participate in such a hearing that took place on the 17th December 2021. We highlighted the need for increased cooperation between private stakeholders and customs enforcement authorities, as well as modernizing the existing customs management systems. Additionally we presented a series of measures that can be taken to address IPR and product safety infringements in small consignments in the context of the e-commerce sector.
