    ΤΟ ΧΑΜΟΓΕΛΟ ΤΟΥ ΠΑΙΔΙΟΥ (The Smile of the Child) is a Greek registered NGO that has been active in the field of child protection and children’s rights since 1996. The main goal of “The Smile of the Child” is protection of children in a variety of situations in which their wellbeing and/or their rights might be affected.

    In order to achieve this goal, the organization implements wide range of programs and activities for the welfare and protection of physical and psychological health, as well as for the safety of thousands of children in need in Greece, on a 24/7 basis, 365 days a year.

    The summary of the activities of “The Smile of the Child” involves:
    o Operation of 11 community homes in Greece where children are referred upon the order of the public prosecutor for minors
    o Operation of 3 day care centers for children in need of psychological and/or social support
    o Operation of the National Helpline for Children “SOS 1056”
    o Operation of the 116000 – European hotline for missing children
    o Coordination of a child alert system AMBER ALERT HELLAS (with the cooperation of 54 public and private institutions).
    o Emergency intervention in cases of children in danger by operating the National Centre for Immediate Social Intervention.
    o Operating National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children.
    o Development of the South-eastern European Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (SEEC)
    o Mobile Medical Units & State-of-the-art ambulances in the emergency service’s (EKAV) disposal nationwide, for the safe transport of children and newborns.
    o Preventive Medicine and Dentistry at schools and isolated areas nationwide, carried out by the organization’s mobile medical units
    o Information, prevention, and awareness programmes for children, parents, and teachers in schools across the country, as well as in a mobile unit ODYSSEUS
    o Support in necessary goods children and families with welfare problems

    “The Smile of the Child” and the Southeastern European Center for Missing and Exploited Children (SEEC) organized a Forum on missing children and child trafficking under the auspices of the Hellenic Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

    1st Conference of the European Anti-bullying Network on Bullying and Cyber-bullying (June 2014) -

    The 1st Conference of the EAN was hosted by "The Smile of the Child" under the auspices of the Hellenic Presidency of the Council of the EU and in the framework of the EAN project and under the funding of the Daphne III Programme of the EC.

    The conference allowed academia, civil society organizations and national and international governmental organizations to discuss on the serious problem of bullying, exchange good practices in the area and present interesting data and studies on the issue.

    In the Framework of the EU-funded project “European Anti-bullying Network” 17 organisations from 12 EU MS and “The Smile of the Child” as coordinator campaigned for the establishment of a European Anti-bullying Day.

    The main goals of the campaign was to raise awareness among the general public, promote the need for targeted action and pan-European anti-bullying action and bring together all relevant actors.

    The core idea of this campaign stems from the need for a distinct day against bullying in Europe institutionalized by the European Commission and included an online petition for the promotion of this cause.

    Victor – Victims of Child Trafficking – Our Responsibility (November 2014 – March 2015) - www.victorproject.eu

    “The Smile of the Child” in cooperation with partnering organizations of the Victor EU-funded project http://www.victorproject.eu/ campaigned towards raising awareness on the phenomenon of child trafficking and improving the level of prevention.

    The campaign included among other activities the organization of raising-awareness events and interventions in the countries participating to the project and the engagement of public and local communities. The campaign was also promoted via Information Desks on child trafficking established in Greece, Bulgaria, Slovenia and Romania.

    The “When every minute counts” conference was held in Athens, Greece on 2 June 2014 in support of International Missing Children’s day (25th May). It has been organised by Missing Children Europe, the European federation for missing and exploited children and “The Smile of the Child”.

    On the occasion of the International Day against Abuse, “The Smile of the Child” in cooperation with 130 organisations from across the world run an awareness raising campaign on child abuse.

    As part of 19 Days of Activism for prevention of abuse and violence against children and youth of Women’s World Summit Foundation (WWSF), The Smile of the Child held a press conference and presented national as well as international data on the extent of the problem.
