Goals / Remit
The World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) represents 69 operators of 250+ regulated, primary Market Infrastructures (ie, securities and derivatives exchanges) and Financial Market Infrastructures (central counterparties/CCPs/clearing houses): 43% in EMEA; 37% in Asia-Pacific; and 20% in the Americas. The market capitalisation of entities listed on WFE securities exchanges is ~$95 trillion (equivalent), with a similar amount in annual secondary-market securities trading. Member CCPs collectively ensure that traders post $1.1 trillion of resources to back their risk taking. The Federation was founded in 1961 for the ’development, support and promotion of organised and regulated securities markets, in order to meet the needs of capital markets in the best interests of their users'. It now works with standard setters, policy makers, regulators and government organisations to support and promote the development of fair, transparent, stable and efficient markets around the world.
