    Goals / Remit

    It aims at assisting its Members to express their positions, needs and grievances in legitimate forums and by providing a community of support, to advance the fulfilment of the aspirations of the Member by effective non-violent means.

    Main EU files targeted

    UNPO follows the EU foreign policy agenda with regards to human minority rights in third countries. In addition, the UNPO pays attention to the EU internal policies with a special focus on civil liberties and justice. Specific EU Legislative proposals or policies that we have a particular interest in include:

    1. Related to transnational repression occurring within the EU by third country actors:
    a. EU Legislation on Criminal Justice within the EU, specifically the Victims Rights and Judicial Cooperation in Criminal Matters legislation,
    b. Europol Serious and Organized Crime Threat Assessment (SCOTA),
    c. Action Plan against Disinformation, and associated actions and policies in the framework of the INGE2 Special Committee on Foreign Interference in All Democratic Processes in the European Union. gaps thereto in the context of transnational reprisals in Europe.

    2. Related to EU trade agenda in the context of human rights violations being conducted by third countries against their populations:
    a. Proposals for regulations on EU Due Diligence and forced labour directives.
    b. European Magnitsky Act, and associated targeted sanctions regimes.

    3. Related to country-specific human rights programming
    a. Resolutions of the European Parliament related to specific countries and their human rights violations, including related in particular to Iran, China and Russia
    b. EU response to the invasion of Ukraine.
    c. EU Guidelines on Human Rights Defenders
