    Goals / Remit

    Der VDMA vertritt mehr als 3600 meist mittelständische Mitgliedsunternehmen der Investitionsgüterindustrie und ist damit einer der mitgliedsstärksten und bedeutensten Verbände Europas. Der Maschinen- und Anlagenbau ist eine Schlüsseltechnologie und der Motor der Wirtschaft. Die Unternehmen der Branche beschäftigen insgesamt rund 3 Millionen Menschen in der EU-27, davon mehr als 1,2 Millionen allein in Deutschland. Damit ist der Maschinen- und Anlagenbau unter den Investitionsgüterindustrien der größte Arbeitgeber, sowohl in der EU-27 als auch in Deutschland. Er steht in der Europäischen Union für ein Umsatzvolumen von geschätzt rund 860 Milliarden Euro. Rund 80 Prozent der in der EU verkauften Maschinen stammen aus einer Fertigungsstätte im Binnenmarkt. Der VDMA beschäftigt weltweit ca. 500 Mitarbeiter. Der Hauptsitz des Verbandes ist Frankfurt. Darüberhinaus unterhält der VDMA Büros in einigen Bundesländern sowie mehrere Auslandsbüros, darunter das European Office in Brüssel.

    Aufgrund der Exportorientierung und internationalen Aktivitäten der Branche sind der VDMA und seine Mitglieder von sehr vielen Politik- und Gesetzgebungsvorhaben der EU unmittelbar betroffen. Dadurch arbeiten zahlreiche VDMA-Kolleginnen und Kollegen an der Anlayse von Vorschlägen, deren Auswirkungen auf die Industrie und koordinieren die Meinungsbildung des Verbands zu den Vorschlägen. Darüber hinaus sind auch zahlreiche VDMA Kolleginnen und Kollegen in die Normungsarbeit auf europäischer Ebene eingebunden. Dies führt dazu, dass der VDMA ein verhältnismässig hohen Betrag für die für das Register relevanten Tätigkeiten aufwendet.
