Goals / Remit
The Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies, established in 2007, is the political foundation and think tank of the European People’s Party (EPP).
The Martens Centre embodies a pan-European mindset, promoting Christian Democrat, conservative and like-minded political values. It serves as a framework for national political foundations linked to member parties of the EPP. It currently has over 50 members and partners in EU and non-EU countries.
The Martens Centre takes part in the preparation of EPP programmes and policy documents. It organises seminars and training on EU policies and on the process of European integration.
The Martens Centre also contributes to formulating EU and national public policies. It produces research studies and books, electronic newsletters, policy briefs and the twice-yearly European View journal. Its research activities are divided into six clusters: party structures and EU institutions, economic and social policies, EU foreign policy (...)Main EU files targeted
Research projects and long-form studies are some of the key activities of the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies. These are complemented and supported by conferences, seminars, workshops and publications, many of which are executed in conjunction with member organisations. Following its mission as the official political foundation and think tank of the EPP, the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies monitors, analyses and contributes to debates around the EU’s policy priorities, both at an expert level and within the wider European public.
A wide range of political issues are covered, spread among the following six research themes:
(1) Political organisations and institutions, including the policy process, with a focus on the (re-) positioning of Centre-Right parties and their modernisation; the deepening and enlargement of the EU, in particular in the Western Balkans, Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia; and strengthening the engagement of young people in political processes through joint programmes.
(2) EU economic governance, economic and social policy, focusing on the single market, digital market, banking union, economic growth, employment and demographics in the EU. Concrete policy recommendations are made on the introduction of a digital euro and the reform of the monetary market protection mechanisms.
(3) EU foreign policy, with an emphasis on the eastern neighbourhood and Russia; transatlantic relations; Middle East and North Africa; a special focus is paid to deepening EU-UK relations, specifically with UK-based think tanks and EU-friendly MPs.
(4) Sustainable transformation and energy, developing a conceptual framework for a wider understanding of just transition; contribution to the rapid development of European energy autonomy after the Russian war, more specifically the enhancement of a Single Energy Market.
(5) Ethics, values and religion, with a particular attention to secularisation processes and the re-foundation of conservative and Christian democratic policy concepts.
(6) New societal challenges, especially the large immigration waves and their integration into European societies and economy.
A set of projects falling within each of the six research themes is carried out yearly.Address

11 meetings found. Download meetings
The list below only covers meetings held since November 2014 with commissioners, their cabinet members or directors-general at the European Commission; other lobby meetings with lower-level staff may have taken place, but the European Commission doesn't proactively publish information about these meetings. For more information about which commissioner is responsible for which portfolio, check out this link: https://commissioners.ec.europa.eu/index_en All information below comes from European Commission web pages.
1 July 2024: We have noted that some meetings are appearing in duplicate, ie. some meetings seem to be listed twice. This seems to be because the Commission changes some element of a meeting data after the meeting has first been listed, which causes LobbyFacts to register it as a new meeting. We are investigating further.
