Klimaschutz
Der WWF verfolgt die Umsetzung des UN-Klimaabkommens von Paris auf europäischer Ebene und erarbeitet dazu eigene Vorschläge. Er schafft auch ein Bewusstsein dafür, dass die jetzige Gestaltung der europäischen Klimapolitik unzureichend ist.
Der WWF möchte eine klare Prioritätensetzung für mehr Ambition im Rahmen der Klimaziele für 2030 sichern. Als Informationen für Entscheidungsträger hat der WWF diverse Positionspapiere verfasst.
Sustainable Finance
Der WWF Deutschland setzt sich in Europa für eine intelligente Finanzmarktregulierung ein: Wir unterstützen den EU-Aktionsplan Sustainable Finance und die darauf basierenden Regulierungsvorschläge. Ziel ist es, dass Rahmenbedingungen so gesetzt werden, dass sie den Finanzmarkt umfassend adressieren und nicht nur auf die „grüne Nische“ abzielen: Finanzmarktakteure müssen in der Breite in die Lage versetzt werden, die zur Einhaltung der Planetaren Grenzen notwendige Transformation in der Realwirtschaft zu verarbeiten und gestaltend zu unterstützen. Der WWF erarbeitet u.a. Positionspapiere und führt parlamentarische Veranstaltungen durch.
Ocean Governance & Marine Conservation & Fisheries Management:
Der WWF Deutschland setzt sich auf europäischer Ebene mit fachwissenschaftlicher Expertise, darauf aufbauender gezielter Politikberatung sowie begleitender Öffentlichkeitsarbeit für die Konzeption und Ausgestaltung relevanter politischer Strategien und Rahmenregelwerke zum Schutz und zur nachhaltigen Nutzung der marinen biologischen Vielfalt und Ressourcen ein und unterstützt deren Umsetzung auf Ebene der EU-Mitgliedsstaaten.
Plastik
Der WWF engagiert sich für eine konsequente Umsetzung der Single Use Plastics Directive, der Richtlinie zu Einwegkunststoffen, in den EU-Mitgliedstaaten.
Der WWF unterstützt den Einsatz der EU für ein rechtsverbindliches internationales Abkommen zur Beendigung des Eintrags von Plastikmüll und Mikroplastik in die Meere.
WRRL
Der WWF setzt sich für einen starken Gewässerschutz in Europa ein. Im Rahmen des FitnessChecks und Review-Prozesses der europäischen Wasserrahmen-Richtlinie (WRRL) fordert der WWF den Erhalt der Richtlinie in der jetzigen Fassung und eine ambitioniertes Umsetzung. Ziel der WRRL ist ein guter ökologischer Zustand der europäischen Gewässer bis 2027.
Der WWF begleitet den Ausbau und die Unterhaltung von Binnenwasserstraßen an Elbe, Oder und Donau durch Teilnahme in Beiräten (Gesamtkonzept Elbe), in öffentlichen Anhörungen zu großräumigen Flussprojekten (Grenzoder Deutschland-Polen, Mittlere Donau (Serbien) und Untere Donau (Rumänien/Bulgarien) und in Konferenzen zum Joint Statement on Guiding Principles for the Development of Inland Navigation and Environmental Protection in the Danube River Basin.

Der WWF setzt sich für die Koexistenz von Menschen und großen Beutegreifern in ganz Europa ein, ist dafür mit seinem LIFE EuroLargeCarnivores Projekt in 13 Mitgliedstaaten aktiv und gibt Empfehlungen an die Europäische Kommission zur Verbesserung von Rahmenbedingungen (z.B. Förderung von Präventions-,
und Kompensationsmaßnahmen für Weidetierhalter).
