    Goals / Remit

    Founded in 2002, YES Forum is a European NGO of organisations working with and for young people. Together we act to improve the life chances of vulnerable young people by: promoting their personal and professional development in society; supporting their active citizenship initiatives; and by developing inclusive youth policy at local, regional and national levels across Europe. In fostering transnational activities, we are a European forum for sharing good practice in youth and social work, and for giving voice to young people’s ideas.
    To meet these goals, the YES Forum:
    • organises transnational activities with and for vulnerable young people with focus on learning mobility and employment;
    • develops and promotes innovative approaches in youth and social work in trainings, seminars and conferences;
    • contributes to policy on youth and social affairs by transferring experience from concrete practice and young people’s input.

    Main EU files targeted

    The YES Forum with its members works diligently to support the EU youth policy cooperation, in particular the successful implementation of the EU Youth Strategy (Council Resolution of 26 November 2018) with its 11 Youth Goals.
    Our network partners who work with young people daily experience that active citizenship has become yet another area of exclusion, especially for disadvantaged young people who struggle to participate in society anyway. Thankfully, the new EU Youth Strategy takes this topic seriously with its goals of engaging, connecting and empowering, especially disadvantaged, young people (cf. European Commission 2018: EU Youth Strategy 2019-2027).
    The YES Forum is a network of organisations working with and for young people who face disadvantages stemming from their socio-economic background, educational difficulties, discrimination based on gender, sexual orientation or ethnicity, and/or geographical seclusion.
    Also the YES Forum is holding the Quality Label to coordinate voluntary activities in the frame of the European Solidarity Corps. And many of YES Forum’s members are also actively involved in creating better opportunities to access employment for young people. YES Forum members have been supporting the Youth Package (Investing in Europe's Youth, Dec. 2016).

    Communication activities

    YES Forum’s main focus is on policies towards youth participation, education and training, youth employment and social inclusion. Furthermore, we support the objectives of the Europe 2020 Strategy and strive to always develop new and innovative ways to work with and for young people.
    The YES Forum supports the EU youth policy process by actively working toward the fulfilment of the 2019-27 EU Youth Strategy’s “Engage. Connect. Empower” objectives. We are resolute about the best way to reach these objectives: through a strong youth and social work sector across Europe.
    ENGAGE – our organisation’s activities promote the participation of young people with fewer opportunities in politics and society:
    - YES Forum contributed to a greater diversity of attendees of the European Youth Event (2016, 2018) by involving groups of young people with no prior experience of social engagement in the event. In 2018, the young people ran an interactive workshop exploring the role of games in political education of young people with the support of youth workers (https://tinyurl.com/yes-eye2018 ).
    - Partnering in the H2020 youth research project “PROMISE – Promoting Youth Involvement and Social Engagement” (2016-2019) to explore how marginalised, conflicted youth’s potential to drive change can be used positively in society (https://tinyurl.com/yes-promise)
    CONNECT – YES Forum brings together young people in cross-border mobilities, strengthens European youth work through sharing of Best Practice, and connects policy makers, young people and youth workers in its projects and policy events.
    - Promoting EVS/ESC for young people with fewer opportunities as well as using synergies in our network to prepare youth workers to host/send EVS/ESC in our “Yes To Volunteering!” project (more details here: https://tinyurl.com/yes-yetovo)
    - Bringing together youth workers for the exchange and advancement of Best Practice, e.g. in our projects “Towards more Gender-Sensitivity in Youth Work” (https://tinyurl.com/yes-gender) and “Kinderstadt Goes Europe” (https://tinyurl.com/yes-kinderstadt)
    - Offering youth work practitioners from our network opportunities to discuss with policy makers and other youth organisations in EU policy meetings such as the European Parliament’s Youth Networking Event in March 2019
    - Bringing together politicians and young people, e.g. at our Final Conference of the “Our Life Our Voice. Young People and Poverty” project where young participants got the chance to discuss with Martine Reicherts (Director-DGEAC) in May 2017 (more details: https://tinyurl.com/yes-olov) and at the YES Forum’s Policy Event 2018 on the topic of inclusion in political simulation games (more details: https://tinyurl.com/yes-policy)
    EMPOWER – encouraging young people is the YES Forum’s motto and it seeks to empower young people and youth workers through its activities.
    - The YES Forum contributed to focus groups conducted by the EP’s Youth Outreach Unit to gather suggestions on how to bring youth closer the European politics and encourage active citizenship (Nov 2018)
    - Empowering young people to make a difference by encouraging them to vote in the 2019 European Elections, cooperation agreement “Memorandum of Understanding“ with EP to support various activities with “This Time I’m Voting”.
    - Getting young people involved and active in our participatory YourEP project where disadvantaged young people designed and an inclusive political simulation game (https://tinyurl.com/ybmgytdn)

    Other activities

    The YES Forum has been a member of the Social Platform for many years. Furthermore, we are invited to Consultations and Meetings of the European Parliament and Commission, the most recent one the DiscoverEU Stakeholders Meeting (EC, Oct 2018) and the Youth Stakeholder Meeting (EP, March 2019).

    When organising YES Forum policy events, we offer room for the young people our members work with and practitioners to meet with policy makers. E.g. in 2017, we discussed with Director General DG EAC, Martine Reicherts, the project results of the “Our Life Our Voice. Young People and Poverty” project. Or in November 2018 we invited Denise CHIRCOP, Policy Analyst from the EP, Parliamentary Research Services.
