    Goals / Remit

Argus Media (Argus) is an independent media organisation with more than 1000 staff. It is headquartered in London and has 26 offices in the world’s principal commodity trading and production centres. Argus produces price assessments and analysis of international energy and other commodity markets, and also offers bespoke consulting services and industry leading conferences.

Half of Argus employees are commodity journalists who specialise in reporting news and price information relating to physical energy and related commodity markets. They operate according to a rigorous Editorial Code of Conduct and a Compliance and Ethics Policy that align with best journalistic practice, including the avoidance of conflicts of interest.

Argus was founded in 1970 and is a privately held UK-registered company. It is owned by staff shareholders and investment firms General Atlantic and Hg Capital.

    Main EU files targeted

Argus Media, a price reporting agency, is a leading independent provider of energy and commodity prices. A number of Argus’ published price assessments have been adopted by market participants for use as independent benchmarks in commodity derivatives contracts. In accordance with Annex II of the EU Benchmark Regulation (BMR), Argus Benchmark Administration was established in 2019 in the Netherlands as an authorised Benchmark Administrator for commodity benchmarks. Argus engages with its regulator and other EU bodies about potential evolution of the regulation.

    Communication activities

From time to time, Argus Media organises events related to energy issues and benchmarks.
We brought together our energy experts and policy makers to discuss energy markets prior to MCM legislation in January 2023 and we have conducted educational briefings thereafter. As part of the MCM legislation we provide ACER with LNG price assessment information, and support ACER's LNG expert group. In addition we updated policy makers on draft updates to the MAR regulation.
As a publisher of news and analysis, Argus reports on EU policies as they pertain to the energy and commodity markets we follow and assess.

    Other activities

As a corporate function, Argus Media maintains an active public policy programme in order to keep abreast of relevant public policy developments internationally. Argus Media undertakes advocacy on public policy issues principally to promote transparent and efficient wholesale commodity markets and to ensure that independent media organisations such as itself can continue to bring transparency to these markets through effective media reporting.
