    Goals / Remit

The Building Societies Association (BSA) is a trade association, representing mutual lenders and deposit takers in the UK including all 47 UK building societies.

The BSA has two principal functions - to act as the central representative body for building societies and mutual lenders and to provide information to its members. The BSA puts forward the industry view to government, UK and European parliament and regulators, the media and other interested bodies. It also provides information and advice to its members on a range of relevant subjects, including financial policy and the mortgage and savings markets.

The above figure refers only to direct costs, and does not cover the cost of the intellectual work required to determine policy in relation to European initiatives. This is not easily distinguishable, given the links between national and European policy.
