Goals / Remit
GNF was founded in spring in 1998 with the objective to foster the protection of nature and environment as well as animals. GNF’s work consists mainly of initiating and carrying out of nature/environment protection Projects. The development of model projects for the promotion of sustainable economy, publications and organisation of events dealing with the protection of nature and Environment and the support of international conventions. In 1998 the Living Lakes network has been initiated by the Foundation Global Nature Fund as a global network of environmental partnership organisations striving for the protection of lakes and wetlands worldwide. In 2010, The GNF launched the European Business and Biodiversity Campaign, promoting the integration of biodiversity into corporate management. In 2021 GNF has constituted the legally independent food and Biodiversity Association and the European Living Lakes Association (ELLA).

Communication activities
GNF is coordinator of the European Business and Biodiversity Campaign promoting the integration of biodiversity in corporates management. There ar a number of projects and communication activities to promote a biodiversity-friendly agriculture in the EU. GNF publishes various guidelines and recommendations to improve biodiversity criteria and measures in the agri-food sector in Europe. GNF coordinates the EU LIFE Project "Biodiversity Governance and Performance in the Food sector" aiming at promoting the integration of biodiversity aspects in sourcing guidelines and trainings for the food sector in the EU. In the frameworkf of EU Life Project "Insect-Responsible Sourcing Regions" GNF will host the EU-wide Conference on Insect-responsible sourcing regions in 2025. Furthermore, GNF promotes a better understanding of the EUDR in the German business sector. Among others GNF co-host the online portal ELAN - Entwaldungsfreie Lieferketten.
