    Goals / Remit

Proton AG is a software company founded in 2014 by former CERN and MIT scientists who had the vision to build an internet that respects people's right to privacy. Proton is working towards its vision by developing free and secure tools, like email, calendar, drive, password manager and VPN services, that empower people to control their data online. Our principal product, ProtonMail (www.protonmail.com), is the world's largest secure email service. Our second product, ProtonVPN (www.protonvpn.com), is one of the world's most popular VPN services. Proton secures its users' data with end-to-end encryption which ensures that no one, not even Proton can access it, and has no advertising on its products. As part of its mission to make privacy accessible to everyone, Proton uses a freemium business plan, which means paid subscriptions subsidise free accounts.

The list below only covers meetings held since November 2014 with commissioners, their cabinet members or directors-general at the European Commission; other lobby meetings with lower-level staff may have taken place, but the European Commission doesn't proactively publish information about these meetings. For more information about which commissioner is responsible for which portfolio, check out this link: https://commissioners.ec.europa.eu/index_en All information below comes from European Commission web pages.

1 July 2024: We have noted that some meetings are appearing in duplicate, ie. some meetings seem to be listed twice. This seems to be because the Commission changes some element of a meeting data after the meeting has first been listed, which causes LobbyFacts to register it as a new meeting. We are investigating further.
